PECKPOST

Wow TDK was really good. Best show of the year so far by a mile. It was seamless, action-packed, twist-filled and best of all it didn't dumb down the audience. My sis didn't think it was nuanced enough but I did. The question of what makes or should make a hero was very pervasive throughout the movie. Also, what I love about Batman is that he's very human. He has tons of weaknesses and internal conflict. Anyway Heath Ledger was great as the Joker. Not oscar worthy but still a creepy, psychotic performance. Really cool. I think as much as the joker is terrifying, he's fascinating as well. It's just his spontaneous no-holds-barred style and his world view that make him really attractive to watch. Yep this was a 9.5/10 for me.

And if there is one show that I think can measure up to TDK this year, it's gotta be Watchmen. Check out the trailer here . It's widely considered the best comic of all time and combine that with Zack Snyder from 300, this could be great.

PECKPOST

Hi everyone it's been a tiring week. I shouldn't have a right to say that, being a clerk, but still it was. Anyway on Saturday I went to watch Hellboy II with Wally. I was totally drawn into the imaginary world of Guillermo Del Toro. The monsters were just fabulous and I loved the nuance and idiosyncratic nature of many of the characters. But on the other hand the movie didn't meet my expectations (which were exceedingly, exceedingly high) simply because it lacked a sense of epicness about it. In some of the action scenes I wanted a sense of epic struggle, a sense of scale and magnitude that did not come through. Wally rightfully pointed out that the golden army fizzed out somewhat. Anyway I still liked the show a lot, and my sister is wrong for saying it's a stupid show. Dangz you sista.

And if I might explain my last tirade about Red Cliff. I really came out of the movie feeling ambivalent but overall sorely disappointed at the same time. How teh heck is that possible? Well put it this way. The movie totally whet my appetite for the sequel with the way it set up the entire story and the potential it displayed but it totally fails as a stand-alone movie. I don't mean it must have an entire story arc. I mean it's gotta have enough substance and end at a decent juncture. Only 2 war scenes, of which only 1 had anything to do with red cliff. NO NAVAL BATTLE? This story reeked of filler and just gave me the feeling that John Woo had only enough great war scene material for 1.5 movies and therefore chucked this one full of bullshit. Like seriously horsebirth, hunting for a tiger that reminds you of the crafty cao cao, going the long way to explain how your men are united. Either way too long or unnecessary. If I might add, vicky zhao wei is totally redundant. The few (scarce) war scenes were absolutely breathtaking though. A mixture of dynasty warrior rambo kungfu, 1337 strategy and plain interesting attacking/defensive techniques. This movie is a prelude to Red Cliff and it leaves you wanting so much more, so watch it on dvd. The abrupt ending was outrageous. Just unacceptable.

Anyway this weekend I am catching The Dark Knight on Sunday with my family. My expectations are through the roof. Plus the Watchmen trailer should be attached to the movie. It's from the director of 300 and it is based on possibly the best comic series of all time.

Well I got nothing to blog about my life. It's bland and boring. Today I went to some military function and man do officers get welfare. The food was imba. Crayfish and sashimi?!!>! wtuf?

I'll end with this dance video from Step Up 2. Holy Awesome.

I feel sad for federer. I'm kinda glad I missed the match. And I lament the day that his graceful all-round game loses to the superhuman speed and muscle of nadal. IT JUST AINT RIGHT AND THATS THAT.

And anyway here's one of the various trailers out for the dark knight. This one has more of the joker. I read one review which said that children shouldn't watch this movie because the joker is just too creepy and psychotic. Hmm I don't think my sister will handle this movie very well.

PECKPOST

Hello I got an off today because my unit was doing a lot of saikang for SAF day. I was a gatekeeper. It really sucked. My gate is next to a rubbish dump which is full of rats and it's just krazy when you're tired and then you see rats fighting in the moonlight. It's kinda entertaining but it also messes with your head. I also had bad skin days for all the rehearsals so during the real thing my friend and I lit like 5 mosquito coils and proceeded to get high on the haze. Seriously though, mosquitoes are biatches and I don't see a place on earth for them. I bet it was the fifth day of creation, it was 2350 hrs and god was trying to make a butterfly and he didnt like the design so he crumpled it up -> Presto the damn bloodsucker was formed.

Anyway in recent weeks I've been watching more artsy movies. This past weekend I watched
The Diving Bell and The Butterfly. It's definitely not that mainstream but it was one of the best reviewed movies of 2007. It's about this frenchman who suffers from paralysis everywhere except his eye. He taps a lot into the memories and imagination and eventually manages to write a book. I would say it's a visually beautiful movie and a thinking movie and the way he was portrayed as an imperfect man was well done. But really I wasn't particularly moved by the movie. Perhaps it was because I have seen The Sea Inside which has similar material. Hmm yeah so not really emotionally affected. Well maybe I've a cold stony heart but I refuse to consider that option -_-.

And then today during lunch I watched Into the Wild, starring Emile Hirsch and directed by Sean Penn. This movie was good.

Man I bet xy will like this film. He quotes tons of authors. It's about this guy who gives up his possessions and goes on a life journey to find happiness. The acting of the entire cast is absolutely top notch and for the most part the movie is always gives me this uplifting vibe. Ask me if you wanna watch it. I got the dvd.

Ah I'll just leave you with this. The Douchiest Phone Message in History. Douche Bag ftl.
