Well before today I had never eaten wagyu beef or kurobuta pork. Both are premium varieties of meat well known for their fat marbling (aka high fat content) which makes them extra juicy and flavourful. Each serving is really hyper expensive - at least 70++ per plate for wagyu, plus my parents often complain to me that a lot of classy restaurants' poor culinary skills betray the quality of the meat. So it didn't really make sense to us to specially go out for it unless we were sure it was a great product. As it turned out, the best premium beef or pork any one of us had ever eaten came at a reasonable price. It was from this stall Big D's Grill at Bedok and it was highly recommended by ieatishootipost. The chef actually used to work in a commercial restarant, but eventually decided to start his own stall.
So the Wagyu Angus steak was $40 and the Kurobuta Pork $36. Unbelievable prices for a hawker stall but unbelievably low compared to any competitor on the market dealing in the same kind of product. It's a strange fit but it makes commercial sense. Anyway both were absolutely irresistable. The pork was GODLY. Sweet, succulent and just great to chew. The beef was equally stunning. Juicy, full of flavour and just orgasmically satisfying. I'm really not a steak fan but this one was impossible to resist. I mean the food was a complete class above anything remotely similar that I had tasted. My eyes were opened. I had a matrix moment. Char Siew is garbage.
I wish I could put up the photos but my dad is being a lazy pok and refuses to pass me his camera. Oh well.
